How to add a page to your site

When you add a new page to your site it will appear on your main navigation menu immediately when published. These steps will walk you through adding a new page to your site and adding it to your main menu in your preferred order.

First, log in to your WordPress site.

From the WordPress menu, choose Write, then Page (if you are adding a Post to your page, simply choose Post and follow these same steps). The link is circled in the image below:

You will be taken to the WordPress editor, which is incredibly powerful and quite simple to use. For details on how to use the editor, visit how to edit a page on your site.

Once you have composed and titled your page you may simply press Publish and it will become available on your website immediately.* You may also choose to make a different page the “Parent” of the page you are adding. This can be useful when adding a several pages in a single theme to your site, as pages with parents will not usually appear as independent items on your site’s main menu.

When adding a page to your site, you may wish for it to appear in a specific location on your menu. For instance, you may with to have your photo gallery come after your contact page. The order of your pages can be set under Page Order, which appears toward the bottom of the editor screen.

Your site will display the lowest-numbered pages first. If two pages have the same value they will be listed in alphabetical order as well. I recommend using increments of ten if you choose to order your pages using this tool, as it will make squeezing pages between others much easier on a regularly-updated site.

*This is not the case when a page is nested under another page, if a page is made private, or if your main menu is edited directly
